Arlington's Car-Free Diet

Welcome to Arlington's Car-Free Diet, the easy, fun way to see how incredible it can feel to live a car-free or car-lite lifestyle. Each time you leave your car at home — choosing instead to ride ART or Metro, bike, walk or telework — you can save money, improve your health and clean our environment. See how much you can save by using our Car-Free Diet Calculator.

Visit The Commuter Store for all your travel needs

The Commuter Store with locations in Ballston, Crystal City, Rosslyn and Shirlington is your one-stop shop for Metro, VRE, MARC, The Circulator, ART and DASH fares. Buy or reload your SmarTrip card, use your SmartBenefits, pick up schedules, or get information on the best way to travel, whether by bus, rail, carpool, vanpool, bike or walk. The Mobile Commuter Store offers these same great services with regularly scheduled stops in Arlington and DC.

Riding the Metroway in South Arlington

The Metroway bus line makes connecting to the growing neighborhoods of South Arlington a breeze. The big blue Metroway buses roll from the Braddock Road Metro station in Alexandria to Pentagon City, with stops in Potomac Yard and Crystal City.

Arlington's Car-Free Diet is presented by Arlington County Commuter Services (ACCS), a bureau of the Arlington, Virginia Department of Environmental Services.
