"Our new definition of thin is strong," says Stephanie Westberg, owner of My Thrive Pilates. "Women are dynamic individuals who go through stages in their lives and our goal is to accommodate all of those stages. I have a bridal program that can make a woman's back and arms look phenomenal for her big day and then I work with clients who just want to be able to move around with more stability."

Westberg took over ownership of My Thrive Pilates in Shirlington last year and expanded with a second location in Courthouse. She brings many years of experience as both a Pilates devotee and instructor. Through business travel as regional vice president and general manager for various hotels, Westberg has had the opportunity to take classes all over the country. "I got to see what worked and what didn't," says Westberg. "And I've implemented the very best of all that I saw and experienced."

Clients of My Thrive Pilates come with a wide range of experience and abilities-while some are anxious to advance quickly others are overcoming injuries and physical limitations. Instructors are trained to balance and challenge the whole body and are free to design their own workouts. With over 150 classes offered between both locations, clients can explore the mat, barre, reformer, TRX Suspension Training and CoreAlign varieties of Pilates.

Fitness fans, and especially those new to Pilates, can enjoy the studios' flexible packages and four-hour cancellation policy. There is also the option to walk in and take a group class if there is available space. No prior class experience required, a practice that Westberg knew she wanted to avoid when she encountered it several times herself.

"Maybe that's why we enjoy such high retention rates," muses Westberg. "Some of our instructors have been here for years and a good percentage of our client base has been with us since the very beginning. I think it's because we attempt to have an open and welcoming place where people feel very comfortable."

The Courthouse location was specifically chosen for its convenient location close to Metrorail, ART bus stops, Capital Bikeshare and within easy walking distance from neighborhoods and offices. "We opened in Courthouse Plaza due to the studio's close proximity to the Courthouse stop on the Orange Line," Westberg explains. "We thought it would be a great boost to business as it would allow individuals who live in Clarendon and Ballston to attend class by simply traveling one or two stops on the metro. Since opening we have also been pleasantly surprised by how many clients choose to walk or ride their bike to class."
