VRE Service Advisory: Heat Restrictions are in effect for the Fredericksburg Line today, May 2. - Heat Restrictions are in effect for the Fredericksburg Line today, May 2. More on Heat Restrictions: Fredericksburg Line trains are scheduled to depart on time today. However, from 1-7 p.m., trains south of Franconia-Springfield will incur some delay over the course of the trip due to heat restrictions. Heat restrictions are issued by the host railroad to reduce train speed over a given section of track. Steel rails expand as a result of high temperatures and/or rapid temperature variation and may cause the rail to buckle or cause a “sun kink.” The slower speeds reduce train forces to prevent buckling, helping keep everyone safe. Your safety is our number one priority. Note: Updates are not typically available for delays under 10 minutes as time is often made up en route. Questions?
