Arlington Family Goes on Car-Free Diet

May 10, 2013

I discovered this blog, "Car(e) Free Family," written by a mother in Arlington who sold her beloved Volvo and now her family of three is living car free. As you can read by the title of her first blog post, "Kicking and Screaming," it wasn't an easy decision for her. For her, the "ah ha moment" in deciding to sell her car and live car free was the money savings. She reluctantly sold her car after much angst and surprisingly felt relief.

What is your "ah ha moment"? Is it the money savings? The health benefits? The environmental benefits? Check out our Car-Free Diet calculator to see how much money, calories and CO2 you can save just by giving up one or two car trips a week.

As the newly car-free mom writes, "This blog is where we will share our journey navigating personal transportation in the DC area. We also hope to inspire others to use their cars less or even give them up completely." I encourage you to follow them on their car-free journey and perhaps start one of your own.
