Car-Free Diet Partners of the Year

November 2, 2012

Over 350 Car-Free Diet Partners help spread the word about all the car free options available to get to their business. We've made it even easier to get to our Partners car free. Just by clicking on the Partner's name, you'll get a detailed map, nearby transit, bike and walk options and real-time transit information. Try it the next time you head out to your favorite shop, restaurant, or business.

Arlington County's Car-Free Diet honored three local businesses with the "Car-Free Diet Partner of the Year" award for their outstanding support of the Car-Free Diet throughout the past year. In addition to displaying and distributing transportation brochures for Arlington Transit, BikeArlington, WalkArlington, Metrorail, Metrobus, and Capital Bikeshare, they enthusiastically promote alternative transportation options for those who work, live and play in Arlington County.

Arlington's Car-Free Diet Partner of the Year Awards for 2012:

Toby's Homemade Ice Cream & Coffee

Toby Bantug (left), owner of Toby's Homemade Ice Cream & Coffee in Westover, has been especially enthusiastic about the Car-Free Diet, particularly since all of his employees either walk or take the bus to work. Stop in his shop on Washington Boulevard for coffee or an ice cream treat and he'll be happy to talk to you about your commute options!

Energy Club

At the Energy Club on South Quincy Street in Shirlington, Michelle Roberts (right), membership manager, was happy to accept the award on behalf of this popular health club. Stop in and ask Michelle for a tour. Check out the Energy Club as featured in one of our "Shop Talk" videos. We are looking forward to an upcoming event at the Energy Club later this year.

The Art Institute of Washington

Michael McKenna (left), Dean of Student Affairs, accepted the award on behalf of the Art Institute in Rosslyn. Although a relatively new Partner, the Art Institute has been particularly pro-active by keeping in regular contact to advise of event opportunities during orientations and open houses. During this past winter, the Car-Free Diet was invited to exhibit at three highly attended events. The Art Institute of Washington is an educational institution specializing in design media arts, fashion and culinary arts degrees.

Congratulations to all three of the 2012 Car-Free Diet Award recipients. And a special thank you to all of the Arlington businesses that support the program and promote walking, biking and riding transit in Arlington County!

If you're an Arlington business interested in becoming a Car-Free Diet Partner, we'd love to talk to you. Please give us a call at 703.247.2125.

Bobbi Greenberg is the Marketing Director for Arlington County Commuter Services within the Department of Environmental Services.
