Lava Barre

Partner Spotlight

Lauren Price, co-owner of Lava Barre, found there was a lack of cross training at the barre studio she opened with her business partner in Clarendon in 2012. When they moved to their new location in Rosslyn in June 2015 they pumped up their regimen by adding TRX suspension training, indoor cycling and yoga. "I was trained in barre and realized there was not an excellent barre studio in the area with more cardio that made you sweat and got your heart rate up," says Price. "We knew people were going to other studios to cycle or outside to run."

Price once lived in Rosslyn and found space for the studio on the ground level of the new Slate building. "Rosslyn is extremely accessible and a very pedestrian and bike friendly area," says Price. She recently applied to have a bike rack installed near the entrance to Lava Barre for clients who bike to the studio. Two Capital Bikeshare stations are within a few blocks as well. As an incentive to bike to Lava Barre, clients get a discount on any fitness package or membership when they bike to the studio ten times.

Clients come to Lava Barre from all over Arlington, as well as DC, because it offers classes other studios don't have. Hybrid classes such as the Barre-to-TRX class, with 30 minutes of each discipline, get people to try something new. Many times they enjoy the new discipline and return for a full 60-minute class.

The experienced instructors at Lava Barre bring their own unique talents and personalities to the classes. They are very hands on and will work to correct a client's form. Beginners work out together with more experienced clients, and instructors always provide options to make the exercise easier or more difficult.

Price feels it's important for people to walk, bike or use public transit because it helps the environment and saves money. She believes the workouts at Lava Barre are good cross training for those who bike to work. "We often refer people to the BikeArlington website," says Price. "If you do bike, please wear a helmet."
