With a kitchen staff of two and a few more waiters to handle food/wine service, Pirouette Restaurant & Wine Shop offers a unique place to sample a curated list of wines from around the world. Within their curated wine collection, you'll discover a variety of specialties. They offer an extensive selection of red, white, and sparkling wines, all at budget-friendly prices. Can’t handle a full bottle? Pirouette carries a healthy list of half bottles. They even have orange wine. This is wine made by allowing the orange skins to remain in contact with the juice during fermentation, imparting an orange color. What’s the most unexpected region represented? Bulgarian wine.

An executive and sous chef together whip up several small plates to satisfy any taste. Or choose an entrée from Peruvian chicken to lamb roulade or torcino-style swordfish. Ingredients come from local farms and you’ll want to come back often since items are seasonal and the menu changes. Think hearty soups in the winter and fresh salads and fruit combinations in the spring/summer.

The open, inviting contemporary space contains a seated dining area and the adjacent wine shop. Most guests are seated at a table and then make their way over to browse the 220+ bottles of wine among the shelves. In warmer months, enjoy an amply spaced patio. With regular wine (and cheese) tastings each weekend, a recent wine club debut, people are picking up on one of the best places to sample a wide variety of wine. Best of all, it’s transit-accessible and incredibly easy to reach—whether you’re walking, taking the Metro, biking, or riding the bus, getting there couldn’t be more convenient. In fact, owners Philippe and Jackie live only a few blocks away from Pirouette, making it an easy walk to get to work each day. They only use their vehicle on rare occasions. Even several of the staff members arrive by bus, Metro or a combination of the two. Situated along Fairfax Drive, Piroutte is equally close to Ballston and Virginia Square Metro stations.
