• VRE Service Advisory: Heat Restrictions are in effect for the Fredericksburg line. - More on Heat Restrictions Fredericksburg line trains are scheduled to depart on time today; however, from 1-7pm trains south of Franconia/Springfield will incur some delay over the course of the trip due to heat restrictions. Heat restrictions are issued by the host railroad to reduce train speed over a given section of track. Steel rails expand as a result of high temperatures and/or rapid temperature variation and may cause the rail to buckle or cause a “sun kink.” The slower speeds reduce train forces to prevent buckling, helping keep everyone safe.
